ICB Approves Permit Requirement at Selected MCPS Outdoor Basketball Courts

At their third quarterly meeting of the year held virtually on Wednesday, September 30th, the ICB (Interagency Coordinating Board) which makes budget and policy decisions for CUPF, approved a resolution that allows the numbering and permitting of MCPS outdoor basketball courts for community use.

Notice this new policy is consistent with the current permitting of MCPS tennis courts. Also, while the Board’s resolution doesn’t allow permitting of MCPS Elementary schools, the plan is to permit half of the basketball court space at the selected schools for community use, leaving the other half of the space open for walk-on-free-use by the community. This would still allow individuals or small groups to have space to play basketball. The permitted use could include organized basketball use as permissible under Executive Orders. Or it could include other appropriate community use with social distancing, such as dance class, karate class, church services, scout meetings, exercise class, fitness training, etc.

The Resolution which is identified as 20-001 allows community user groups to request reservations online, effectively immediately, for use of the following 15 MCPS Outdoor Basketball Courts, with seven advance day notice.
