Just a few months ago stood one of Maryland's largest White Oak Trees. The Linden Oak, located in Montgomery County, at the juncture of I-270 and 355 Rockville Pike, has now been fully removed. There is great news regarding its memorial and legacy. The massive trunk of the tree has been left in place and preserved as a monument, with its two plaques encased in stone being left as markers.
CUPF's previous blog about The Linden Oak highlighted the strenuous process being taken to remove the tree on July 18. Here is a video of the tree removal. As a reminder, the process of removing a tree that is declining due to health incudes removing limbs and other weakened areas that may pose a threat to the environment. Threats can include branches falling and harming the community.
CUPF's Update
While driving past the now removed Linden Oak, a CUPF representative who witnessed the removal of the tree was astonished by the size of the remaining tree trunk. The current pictures, highlighted in the blog, show in greater detail the scale or size of the tree in comparison to its surrounding area. As we continue to honor the legacy of the Linden Oak, CUPF would like to acknowledge MNCPPC, Montgomery Parks, and other organizations for their role in the conservation of the historic tree.
